Barren County Schools was recognized for the success of our Kindergarten Readiness Program at the Live United Awards and Community Celebration on February 6, 2025. While the regional kindergarten readiness average is 51%, Barren County is at 70%. United Way has been a huge supporter of Barren County’s Kindergarten Readiness Camp for several years. In honor of Black History Month, we recognize Hiseville native, Luska Joseph Twyman. Twyman became Kentucky's first African American mayor in 1968 when he was elected in Glasgow. He also served as principal of Ralph Bunch School, contributing significantly to education and civil rights in the community. Twyman's legacy reminds us that leadership, perseverance, and education can create lasting change.
