In honor of Black History Month, we recognize Willa Brown Chappell. Chappell was born in Glasgow and was the first African American woman in the United States to earn a pilot's license in 1937. She also became the first African American officer in the Civil Air Patrol and the first American woman to hold both a mechanic's license and a commercial pilot's license.
