Reading to young children is an important way to help them build language skills. It exposes them to new words and ways of using language. It also helps them learn general information about the world, which makes it easier for them to learn about new subjects that are taught at school! Reading is a skill (like any sport or trade) that must be practiced. Even a few minutes of reading together gives you and your child a chance to slow down and connect with each other. And the sensory experience of sitting with you and hearing your voice also engages their brain in a way that makes learning easier. There’s no one right way to read to your child. You can do it at the same time every day or change up the routine. Your child doesn’t even need to be sitting with you — just sitting nearby with a book while they play can be a way to connect.
The important thing is for your child to hear words and language and to have books be part of their daily life. Any steps you’re able to take can make a big difference!

February 3-7 is National School Counseling Week! We cannot thank Mr. Felkins enough for all that he does everyday to serve our students, staff, and families!

In the month of January, we have been emphasizing the attribute of ACCOUNTABILITY through our Leading Eagle celebrations. This morning we were able to recognize Eagles of the Month for being nominated by their homeroom teachers for exhibiting this trait each day. Congratulations!

Join us as we celebrate the 100th Day of School on Monday, February 3rd!

We will be celebrating Valentine's Day at Austin Tracy on Friday February 14th. Our local businesses support our schools in a variety of ways. In order to support them on one of their busiest days, we will allow deliveries to ATE for Valentine's Day. We will have tables set up in the front lobby to organize all deliveries.
Deliveries will be given to students as they leave for the day. We will alter our dismissal schedule so that all students have time to pick up their items.
NO BALLOONS or BREAKABLE Items are allowed on the bus. Parents will need to pick up these items if they are delivered for a bus rider.
Each classroom can have their Valentine's Party at the end of the day (beginning at 1:30 pm). Homeroom teachers will be sending out specific details about their classes' party. As a reminder, if you sign your child out of school early (prior to dismissal) it is recorded as a tardy on their attendance record.
Please call the school if you have any questions!

The Dinner Table Project was created with the basic idea that families that eat together have better relationships. If children have better relationships with their parents and siblings, they are less likely to try drugs and alcohol. Children of families that share meals together also have better academic performance, higher self-esteem, a greater sense of resilience, lower risk of teen pregnancy, lower risk of depression, lower rates of obesity, and a lower likelihood of developing an eating disorder. We encourage families to eat together at least once a week with no electronics.

Getting back into the school routine can be extremely difficult. One of the most important aspects of a successful school day is ensuring your student gets enough rest. Here are a few tips that may help:
Set a consistent bedtime for your child and stick with it every night. Getting enough sleep is critical for kids to stay health and be successful in school. Not getting enough sleep is linked with lower academic achievement, as well as higher rates of absenteeism and tardiness.
Create a bedtime routine that is consistent to help your child settle down and fall asleep. For example, a calming pre-bedtime routine may involve a bath/shower, reading with them, tucking them in and saying goodnight.
Have your child turn off electronic devices well before bedtime. Try to have the home as quiet and calm as possible when younger children are trying to fall asleep.
We can't wait to see all of our Eagles on Monday January 6th!!!
